Livermore Students Chosen as Youth Ambassadors

Contact Information:

John Weaver

Full Description:

People to People International has selected three students from Livermore, twelve total from Alameda County, to represent the United States as part of a delegation heading to the United Kingdom and Ireland this June. Livermore's student ambassadors are Danielle Cabral from Junction Middle, Kimberlea Buczeke from Our Savior Lutheran and Tyler Campbell from Arroyo Seco Elementary. People To People was founded in 1963 by Dwight D. Eisenhower, and every U.S. President since has served as Honorary Chairman. The organization operates under the belief that by learning about other cultures firsthand we can better promote peace, tolerance and acceptance worldwide. All participants must attend monthly training classes to prepare for this journey and the many responsibilities. Teachers and local guides act as chaperones during their excursion abroad. The youth delegation will spend two weeks traveling through Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England. Some of their action-packed schedule includes: visiting a local school in Wales, exploring Medieval castles in Scotland, ridding a toboggan down an old mining hill in Ireland and acting in a play in Shakespeare's Globe Theater. They will meet with local dignitaries at each stop. The highlight of the trip is a meeting with a member of the House of Commons that will take place in the Houses of Parliament. For more information about People to People, visit www.studentambassadors.org or www.ptpi.org. Potential participants must be referred by their teacher.
