On August 9, the Livermore Public Library will play host to Eden Aoba Taiko, a multi-generational, multi-cultural troupe practicing the impressive art of Japanese drumming.
San Lorenzo-based Eden Aoba Taiko formed in 1997, and performs frequently around Northern California, often at festivals such as the San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. Members' ages range from six-year-olds to seventy and beyond. The taiko—Japanese for “drums”—are made by the members, the largest taiko measuring 32" diameter and made out of a 80 gallon wine barrel. The dramatic and rhythmic beat of taiko call out to audience members as diverse as the drummers and the drums themselves.
Eden Aoba Taiko will perform on Saturday, August 9 at 2:00pm at the Livermore Public Library’s Rincon branch at 725 Rincon Avenue as part of the library’s annual summer reading game performance series. All performances are free and open to the public. Performances are outside, and audience members are encouraged to arrive early.
