A preliminary list of performers and prize donors has been announced for the “SOS Family Festival” event to be held Sunday, July 20 in Livermore’s Robertson Park. The festival, which was created by Livermore teachers and parents to raise money and awareness to save the district’s elementary school science program, has grown in a few short weeks from a mere idea to a full-scale event including performers, Bay Area businesses and community groups, and an army of volunteers.
Performers scheduled to appear at the festival include: musicians Scientific Jam, Debra Knox, Southern Knights, and Edgar’s House; storytellers S.E. Wyatt and Leona Hoegsberg; Native American dancers from the American Indian Center; and various local youth dance and cheerleading groups.
Games, experiments, crafts and other activities will be presented by groups including: The Exploratorium, Valley Discovery Museum, Mad Science, Discovery Toys, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, Sandia National Laboratories, American Indian Center, Sierra Club, Aquatic Outreach Institute, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Bay Nature Magazine, Alameda County Master Gardeners, California Native Plant Society, Tri-Valley Stargazers, LUNAR Rocketry Association, Livermore Fire & Police educational units, A+ Spanish Academy of Danville, Livermore Water Resources Division, and Zone 7 Water.
Raffle prizes include Oakland A’s tickets donated by DeSilva-Gates Construction, plus passes to Northern California attractions including Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Bonfante Gardens, Children’s Fairyland, California Academy of Sciences, Charles Schulz Museum, Boomers, and Granada Bowl, as well as certificates for dining and services, and a wealth of other prize items.
“SOS Family Festival” will take place Sunday, July 20 from 2-6pm at Livermore’s Robertson Park. Family passes are $25, or admission can be purchased on a per-person basis at the rate of $10/Adult, $5/Child. Tickets are available at the gate, or in advance from KnowBrainers Multimedia, 1120 E.
